For over 40 years, our family-owned business has been crafting furniture in Cape Town, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing techniques. Today, our purpose-built factory is home to a team of highly skilled artisans, makers, upholsterers, seamstresses, designers and craftspeople who bring every Wunders piece to life.
We are proud to manufacture locally, supporting South African craftsmanship while maintaining complete control over quality, materials and production.
Design and Development
Every product begins in our Design & Development department.
Our team explores ideas through sketching, prototyping, technical detailing and material selection before a piece ever reaches the factory floor.
This process ensures every design meets our standards for comfort, durability, aesthetics and manufacturability.
Whether creating a new collection or developing a custom piece for a client, our designers work closely with production teams to ensure every detail is considered.
The Mill
The journey begins in our Mill Department.
Here, raw timber is transformed into the structural framework of a piece. Every component is cut, machined, assembled and prepared using precision equipment combined with traditional woodworking skills.
The mill creates the foundation upon which every Wunders piece is built.
Assembly
Once individual components have been manufactured, they move into Assembly.
Our team carefully constructs and reinforces each frame, ensuring structural integrity, strength and longevity.
Every joint, connection and support element is checked before moving to the next stage.
Prep and Foam
Comfort is engineered long before upholstery begins.
In our Prep & Foam department, each frame is prepared with webbing, support systems and carefully selected foam components.
Different products require different comfort specifications, and every layer is carefully considered to achieve the intended feel and performance.
Cutting
Our Cutting Department prepares fabric, leather and upholstery materials using detailed cutting plans that maximise yield and minimise waste.
Every pattern is carefully checked to ensure consistency and accuracy before moving into production.
Sewing and Seamstress Department
This is where materials begin to take shape.
Our seamstresses bring upholstery covers to life through careful cutting, stitching and finishing.
Attention to detail is critical, ensuring every seam, stitch and panel aligns perfectly with the design intent.
Upholstery
The upholstery department is where craftsmanship truly comes alive.
Our upholsterers combine skill, precision and years of experience to transform frames and materials into finished furniture.
Every layer, fold, seam and detail is carefully applied by hand, ensuring exceptional comfort, appearance and durability.
This stage requires patience, expertise and an uncompromising attention to detail.
Quality Control
Before any piece leaves our factory, it passes through a rigorous quality control process.
Every item is inspected for construction quality, comfort, finish, dimensions and detailing.
Only once a piece meets our standards does it receive final approval.
Ready for Home
After quality control, furniture is carefully packaged and prepared for delivery.
