A Bold New Chapter in Circular Design
MakeSpace is a design-led sustainability initiative by Wunders, pioneered by circular design trailblazer Heath Nash and driven by Bianca Shapiro’s unwavering passion to reduce waste. Born from the belief that waste should never be wasted, it’s a space where offcuts, surplus and forgotten materials are transformed into useful, beautiful new forms. Entirely housed within the Wunders factory in Cape Town, MakeSpace reimagines manufacturing leftovers — foam, fabric, timber and more — as raw material for fresh creativity.
Together, Heath and Bianca have built what started as a one-off workshop into a permanent department dedicated to sustainable thinking and community-led craft. Heath’s visionary approach to circular design, combined with Bianca’s drive to eliminate waste at every stage of production, has created a space that invites local creatives, artisans and the Wunders team itself to push the boundaries of what can be made from what’s left behind.
At its heart, MakeSpace is about showing that innovation, sustainability and heritage craft can not only coexist, they can lead to design that is more meaningful, more considered, and more human.
